Recently, my 15+ year old dehumidifier decided to give up the ghost. In researching the buyer reviews of various dehumidifiers on Amazon, I decided to choose the Frigidaire 70-Pint Dehumidifier, model Fad704Tdp. The 70-Pint designation is not the size of the bucket, but rather, the whole of water vapor that the dehumidifier can remove from the air in a singular day. So, a 70-Pint model will be more noteworthy than a 50-Pint model.
Now, without a dehumidifier, it only takes a few days before you will begin to consideration light rusting on your tools in the basement workshop. Any longer than a few days and you may consideration mildew and mold problems starting to appear.
DEHUMIDIFIER
With this dehumidifier, it's inherent to keep the humidity in my basement consistently colse to 50% to 60% (or even lower, depending on basement size), which will prevent the above mentioned problems.
This Frigidaire unit is fairly quiet when the fan is running at the lower of the two speeds. Of course, you will hear it running while you are in the basement, which I find pleasing because I know it's working.
A handy highlight I like about this model is that you can bypass the 2 gallon collection bucket and attach a hose directly to the drain spout, if you have a floor drain close by. Hence, the biggest chore with a dehumidifier, that of emptying the bucket (depending on how low you want the humidity, this could be a daily chore), is not necessary. Indeed, it should be noted that the develop lends to the bucket being slightly difficult to remove and empty until one gets used to it, so if you can position the unit near a floor drain and use a hose, it is recommended to do so.
According to the Frigidaire goods lineup, this 70 pint dehumidifier is designed for medium sized rooms. However, it works very well for my basement, which is about 30' x 50'. It's foremost not to "cheap out" when buying a dehumidifier. A model that is not noteworthy sufficient for your needs will naturally be a waste of money; continually running but yet, not able to do the job.
This model has a filter clean reminder light that goes on after 250 hours of operation. This is a handy reminder that it's time to clean the washable filter. As well, it has a "bucket full" indicator light, and the dehumidifier will stop running until the bucket is emptied.
All in all, I'm very happy with the Frigidaire 70-Pint Dehumidifier, model Fad704Tdp, and I very suggest it.
